Campus Preparedness
The Governor’s Campus Preparedness Conference
The Governor’s Campus Preparedness Conference was established in the wake of the tragic shootings on the campus of Virginia Tech in 2007. The conference created an effective way for participants to share information on campus security strategies, participate in panel discussions on security issues, and examine the latest products and services to improve campus security from a variety of vendors. The conference is not only a great way to share important ideas and information, but it has also become a very helpful tool for fostering relationships between Colleges and Universities all across the Commonwealth.
With hundreds of attendees each year and break-out sessions that truly give them a voice, the Governor’s Campus Preparedness Conference has proven to be powerful and enlightening venue to affect change in our security measures. Governor Bob McDonnell has always made public safety and security one of his top priorities and will continue to do so throughout his administration. At the Secretary of Veterans Affairs & Homeland Security we are looking to build on each year’s successes and one of the ways we will do so is to keep the conference’s momentum going throughout the year with new regional seminars and ad-on presentations that are currently in the works. As we all know in the security community, it truly takes a team effort to create an overall culture of preparedness on our campuses which will in turn, lead to better safety and security for all of us. This is the mission and goal of the Governor’s Campus Preparedness Conference.
